How To Add Slide Numbers in PowerPoint
Adding slide numbers in PowerPoint can sometimes be a puzzling task. This blog post is inspired by a personal challenge I faced while working on a PowerPoint presentation. Despite all efforts, they just wouldn’t appear. Here, I’ll guide you through the steps to successfully add slide numbers to your slides.

Step 1: Accessing Slide Master
The journey begins in the ‘View’ tab, where you need to select ‘Slide Master’. The Slide Master is the key to controlling the overall layout and design of your presentation. Here, ensure that the ‘Footer’ placeholder is active, as this is where your slide numbers will be displayed.
Step 2: Checking the Placeholder
In the Slide Master view, actively search for the footer placeholder designated for slide numbers. This crucial step ensures your template displays numbers on each slide.
Step 3: Exiting Slide Master
After verifying the placeholder, the next step is to close the Slide Master view. This can sometimes be where the trouble starts, as the numbers might still not appear on your slides.
Step 4: Using the Insert Tab
The solution to this conundrum lies in the ‘Insert’ tab. Navigate to this tab and then select ‘Header and Footer’. This is a critical step that is often overlooked.

Step 5: Activating Slide Numbers
In the ‘Header and Footer’ settings, locate and check the ‘Slide Number’ box. This action activates the slide numbering function for your presentation.

Step 6: Applying to All Slides
Finally, select ‘Apply to All’. Your slides will be numbered in the correct location throughout your presentation.
Following these simple steps will effectively add slide numbers to your PowerPoint presentation, enhancing its accessibility and navigability. Remember, sometimes the solution to a technical hiccup is just a few clicks away!
