The PAC 2024 Tool: A Step-by-Step Guide
Today, we embark on an exciting journey with the new PAC 2024 tool. This tool is a significant upgrade from the previous PAC 2021 checker, and I’m thrilled to guide you through downloading and using it.

Downloading PAC 2024:
To get started, visit pac.pdf-accessibility.org/en. Once there, select “Download PAC 2024” and prepare to experience the latest in PDF accessibility checking.
After downloading, extract the file and launch the exe. You’ll be greeted by the user-friendly interface of PAC 2024. This version boasts several new features, including PDF view, W3C’s WCAG compliance check, and an intriguing Quality tab.
New Quality Feature of PAC 2024:
The Quality tab suggests best practices for PDF files. While not hard and fast rules, following them greatly enhances your document’s accessibility. The tab examines various elements, including document title validity and language attribute correctness.
Testing a file is simple. You can drag and drop a file or click the ‘Open Document’ button. The tool actively scans for PDF/UA and WCAG standards compliance and evaluates the new Quality criteria.
The Quality tab delves into several aspects:
- Validity of a document title.
- Correctness of language attributes.
- Importance of headings and bookmarks.
- Link elements in table of contents.
- Alternate text validity.
- Formal correctness of list and table elements.
Detailed Error Analysis
If PAC 2024 detects errors, it provides detailed insights that enable you to pinpoint and rectify specific issues. For example, you might find a missing PDF/UA identifier or a discrepancy in bookmark usage.
Generating Reports
The tool generates comprehensive PDF reports that adhere to PDF/UA and WCAG 2.1 guidelines. Professionals who need to document and address accessibility issues systematically will find this feature invaluable.
