The Accessibility Guy Podcast

The Accessibility Guy Podcast

I am starting a podcast!

If you have followed my work for a while, you may be wondering why I want to add a podcast to the presentations, webinars, conference sessions, and technical training I already create.

The answer is simple. I think the accessibility community needs more conversations.

Why Accessibility Needs More Conversation

A lot of accessibility content focuses on teaching a specific topic within a limited amount of time. That format works well for explaining a standard, demonstrating a technique, or walking through a process.

I plan to keep creating that kind of content.

A podcast gives us room to explore the work in a different way. It creates space for people to talk honestly about the challenges they face, the decisions they make, and the lessons they learn.

Accessibility work requires more than a checklist. Sometimes the most useful insight comes from hearing how another person approached a difficult problem, what happened, and what they would change next time.

Those are the conversations I want this podcast to support.

Accessibility Connects Many Areas of Work

Accessibility touches nearly every part of how organizations create and deliver technology.

It involves:

  • Disability and lived experience
  • Design and development
  • Education and government
  • Business and procurement
  • Legal requirements and technical standards
  • Assistive technology and user experience

These areas often overlap. A decision about design can affect development. A procurement choice can create barriers across an organization. A legal requirement can influence training, staffing, testing, and long-term planning.

Because accessibility reaches across so many areas, the challenges rarely have one simple answer.

Turning Accessibility into Practice

Let’s explore how people handle accessibility work in real settings. Guests will discuss projects, program development, technology evaluations, team decisions, and the lessons they learned when plans changed.

The conversations will include accessibility specialists, disability professionals, assistive technology experts, developers, designers, educators, government leaders, procurement professionals, and people with lived experience. Their perspectives can show how accessibility decisions affect implementation, policy, services, and users.

We will also examine how organizations turn laws and standards into daily practice. Guests will share how they assign responsibilities, evaluate products, train staff, improve processes, and address barriers while balancing resources and user needs.

Topics, Skills, and Professional Growth

The podcast will explore topics that shape accessibility work, including:

  • Document and web accessibility
  • Assistive technology
  • Procurement and vendor evaluation
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Higher education
  • State and local government
  • Careers, leadership, and communication

The podcast will support people at every stage of their careers by sharing practical lessons from experienced professionals, emerging voices, and people with lived experience. It will also help strengthen the accessibility community by connecting people across teams, organizations, and locations while keeping the experiences of people with disabilities at the center of the discussion.

I am excited to hear where these discussions lead and how they help us learn from one another.
