Web accessibility is often treated as a one-time project: run an audit, fix the listed problems, and move on. But that approach does not reflect how modern websites actually work.

Websites change constantly. New pages are published, plugins are updated, templates are redesigned, themes are modified, and content teams add new materials every day. Each change can introduce new accessibility barriers. That is why accessibility should be treated less like a one-time cleanup and more like security, performance, or site maintenance: an ongoing responsibility that must be monitored, managed, and verified.

Continuous accessibility monitoring helps teams keep their websites usable, compliant, and inclusive over time. Instead of waiting for problems to pile up into a major remediation project, teams can detect and fix accessibility issues as they appear.

How I Use Accessible Web RAMP for Continuous Website Monitoring

For my own continuous website monitoring, I use the Accessible Web RAMP platform because it helps turn accessibility into a process instead of a one-time checklist.

RAMP monitors the website and flags accessibility issues as they show up. That gives me a clearer view of what is happening across the site, especially after new content, page updates, plugin changes, or template edits. Instead of waiting for the next full audit to find out something broke, I can see issues sooner and respond before they become bigger problems.

What I like about RAMP is that it does more than point out problems. It helps organize the work. The platform can turn violations into remediation tasks, show the affected page, provide guidance for fixing the issue, and help track progress as updates are made. 

A Continuous Monitoring Workflow Using RAMP

Here is a practical workflow:

  1. Set up monitoring in RAMP
    First, add your website to RAMP and choose the pages, templates, or sections you want to track. This gives your team ongoing visibility as content, plugins, templates, and design changes go live.
  2. Review new issues regularly
    Next, check RAMP after website updates. Focus on issues that appear on key pages, repeated templates, forms, navigation, and high-traffic content.
  3. Prioritize the work
    Then, decide what needs attention first. Start with issues that appear across multiple pages, block key user tasks, or affect important areas like forms, buttons, menus, and checkout or contact flows.
  4. Review the issue details
    Open each issue in RAMP and review the affected page, failure description, code snippet, and remediation guidance. Make sure the owner understands what failed and what needs to change.
  5. Assign and fix the task
    Assign each issue to the right person or team. Use RAMP guidance to repair the issue, and fix the source when the same problem appears across templates or repeated components.
  6. Rescan and document progress
    After the fix, rescan the page in RAMP to confirm the issue is resolved. Finally, document what was found, who fixed it, when it was completed, and whether it passed verification.

Repeat this process whenever your team publishes content, launches a page, updates a plugin, changes a template, or releases new code. RAMP helps your team find, assign, fix, verify, and track accessibility issues as the website continues to change.

What Automated Monitoring Can Catch

Automated monitoring can catch many common accessibility issues, especially technical problems that show up across pages.

A scanner can often identify:

  • Missing form labels
  • Color contrast failures
  • Empty links or buttons
  • Heading structure problems
  • Some ARIA errors
  • Images missing alt attributes

These checks are helpful because they give your team quick visibility. They also make it easier to find repeated problems in templates, components, and content patterns.

Where Human Testing Still Matters

Automated monitoring helps, but it cannot replace human judgment. This is where manual testing comes in. 

A scanner can tell you that an image has alt text. It cannot reliably tell you whether the alt text is useful. A tool can flag certain code issues. It cannot fully judge whether a person using a keyboard or screen reader can move through the page comfortably.

Manually test your website for things like:

  • Contextual/descriptive alt text
  • Proper keyboard navigation
  • How screen reader users understand the page
  • Clear form instructions
  • Logical reading order
  • The full experience working for people with disabilities

The best approach uses automated monitoring to catch what tools can find and human testing to evaluate the actual experience.
